Riding Stockholm’s vintage trams is one of the city’s most unique and accessible heritage experiences, and the best way to do it is on Djurgårdslinjen (Line 7N), a working heritage tram line operated by the Swedish Tramway Society using beautifully restored trams from the 1920s and 1940s. The line runs from Norrmalmstorg in the city center along the scenic Strandvägen waterfront to Djurgården, stopping at key attractions including Djurgårdsbron, Nordiska museet/Vasamuseet, Liljevalchs/Gröna Lund, Skansen, and Waldemarsudde, making it both a practical transport option and a sightseeing experience in itself.

How to Ride Stockholm Vintage Trams
No special heritage ticket is needed. A standard SL public transport ticket (SEK 43 for adults, SEK 26 discounted) or any valid SL period pass is all you need to hop on, making it one of the easiest and most affordable heritage transport experiences in Stockholm.
The service runs seasonally from early April to late December, with daily service during the peak summer months of June through August and more limited weekend and holiday operation outside that period, so checking the timetable before visiting is recommended.

What to Expect on Board
“This is the right choice if you want to experience riding a tram in the past with manual controls, even the horn can be sounded by pressing the bell pedal using your foot. You can also stand next to the tram driver and see how the driver operates the Stockholm Heritage Tram. To ride it, you only need a valid SL ticket, you can get on from Djurgården or Norrmalmstorg. Midway, you will see the driver get off and change the tram rail track manually using an iron crowbar.”
