Nackareservatet is one of Stockholm’s most accessible and rewarding natural areas, a protected nature reserve covering approximately 99 hectares split between Stockholm and Nacka, offering a rich mix of conifer forest, meadows, lakes, wetlands, and small stream environments that together create a genuinely varied outdoor experience just a short metro or bus ride from the city center.

What Makes Nackareservatet Special
The reserve is particularly well suited for hiking, with multiple trail systems including the long-distance Sörmlandsleden passing through and a blue trail running from Hellasgården toward Solsidan, supporting everything from easy casual loops to more serious hikes. For those seeking a natural river feel, areas like Brotorp and the small bridge over Ältaån offer stream valleys and mixed woodland scenery that feels surprisingly wild for such an urban-adjacent location.

Key Entry Points
Key entry points include Sickla park in Hammarby Sjöstad, where you can step directly into the reserve and follow the shoreline of Sickla Sjö deeper into the forest. Hellasgården is the most well-equipped starting point with lit exercise tracks, an outdoor gym, and access to longer routes.
Beyond hiking, the reserve is a genuine year-round outdoor destination supporting:
- Swimming
- Canoeing
- Orienteering
- Berry and mushroom picking
- Winter skating on plowed tracks
This makes Nackareservatet arguably the most practical and complete natural escape closest to central Stockholm for those who want real nature without traveling far.
